Snow, Snow and More Snow

Virginia finally got its first real snow! I woke up this morning to kids screaming outside my window because all of the schools were closed. I walked outside to take some pictures and was almost pelted with a snowball! Of course Brian did not get the day off, and he is actually out in the snow practicing Land Nav. The weather is only supposed to get worse over the next 24 hours, including sleet and ice. As of right now it is absolutely beautiful to see all the snow!

This is the view we have outside our back door!

Washington DC

One of the great things about living in Virginia is that we are only 45 minutes south of DC. I still haven't gotten used to seeing the capital building out my window when driving by. Brian and I were able to spend a couple of days in DC the weekend after Thanksgiving. The first day we spent walking to all of the monuments, plus the Marine Corps Memorial, I think this was Brian's favorite part. We had a blast! We even got some amazing pictures with the beautiful foliage. Patrick and Sandy, our good friends, went with us the first day. After we finished seeing all of the monuments we all went out to eat at the Hard Rock Cafe in Washington DC. We had so much fun, and the weather was perfect.

My Marine, I am so proud of him!

On the second day we went to the Air and Space Smithsonian Museum. Eventhough aircraft history is not my favorite thing, it was a lot of fun to see how excited Brian was about it all. We walked through the entire museum and went to all of the exhibits he wanted to see. After the museum we walked down to the Capital Building, it was under construction because they were getting ready for the Inaguaration. Brian used some of his artistic talent and took some awesome pictures. We had so much fun spending the weekend together in DC and we plan on going back soon so we can go to some of the other museums we didn't have time to see. I hope you enjoy the pictures!

Our New Home

Brian and I decided that we should start a blog for all of our friends and family in Texas. Since we will be moving all over the place for the next few years this will be an easy way for all of us to keep in touch. So here is a little bit about us.

We moved to Virginia in October for Brian to begin his training in the Marine Corps. We will be here until some time this summer, and then we will be moving to Pensacola, Florida where Brian will begin flight school. One thing I have already learned about the Marine Corps is that nothing is certain...until it happens. Brian works very hard and keeps long hours for the Marines already. It has been a hard adjustment for both of us. Typically we wake up around 4:00am and Brian gets home around 7:00pm on a good day. I am able to substitute teach when needed, but other days are spent at home or with the other Marine wives. Eventhough this transition has been tough we have continued to grow closer to each other and learned how to rely more on God. We have been so blessed in our first 5 months of marriage and we are so grateful.

Here are some pictures of our new home in Stafford, Virginia. It is three stories, including the basement, and is located in a great townhome community. We really do enjoy it here, but will always miss our family and friends back home.

This is the outside of our house...yes I managed to get one with a red door and shutters!
